Meet Rowena Goodridge
As a young adult, I experienced an encounter that would alter the course of my life in ways I could never have imagined.
It began with an innocent blind date. This was completely outside of my comfort zone, but I decided to take a chance. The young man I met came from a family deeply involved in ministry. His mother was known as a pastor, and through his family, I was invited to attend their church. I was first introduced to his aunt, who warmly welcomed me and encouraged me to visit.
At the time, everything appeared normal. In fact, it seemed like a positive opportunity to connect with people who shared a spiritual background. What I did not realize was that, beneath the surface, things were not what they appeared to be.
As I became more involved, I found myself drawn into practices and experiences that felt unfamiliar and unsettling. I could not fully explain what I was sensing, but deep inside, I knew something was not right. Years later, I came to understand that what I had entered was not a healthy spiritual community but something that operated more like a secret society disguised as a church.
Looking back, I can now see warning signs that I completely missed at the time. The problem was not that the signs were not there; the problem was that I did not know what I was looking at. I had never been taught how to recognize spiritual manipulation, unhealthy control, or deceptive influences. I lacked the guidance and accountability that might have helped me make different decisions.
When I eventually tried to distance myself and leave, I faced challenges that were difficult to explain. Strange events, emotional turmoil, fear, confusion, and experiences that seemed beyond my understanding became part of my reality. Often, I felt completely alone. There were very few people who understood what I was going through, and I did not know where to turn for help.
The impact of those years was significant. Even today, I continue to navigate the effects of that season of my life. Yet what was meant to harm me has also become part of my purpose.
My journey has given me a deep passion for helping young people—and adults as well—navigate life’s challenges with wisdom, discernment, and confidence. I want to help others recognize warning signs before they become life-altering situations. I want to teach people how to identify unhealthy influences, ask the right questions, trust their instincts, and seek wise counsel when something does not feel right.
I know what it feels like to walk into something without understanding the consequences. I know what it feels like to wish someone had pulled you aside and said, “Don’t go that way.” That experience has fueled my commitment to be that person for others.
Today, I make myself available to guide, encourage, and support those who may be facing uncertainty, confusion, or difficult life transitions. Through coaching, mentorship, and faith-based guidance, my goal is to help people develop the awareness, accountability, and direction they need to make healthy decisions and walk confidently in their purpose.
My prayer is simple: that what took me more than a decade to understand and recover from will not take someone else as long. If sharing my story can help even one person recognize a warning sign, avoid a harmful path, or find hope in the middle of their struggle, then my journey has not been in vain.
